Farkle Variations

Point Sharing (500 Rule)

In Farkle, point sharing is when a player ends their turn without getting a farkle, and the next player can use the points the previous player earned to start their turn. Each player must roll 500 points in one turn to be able to use the previous players points. Each player only has to do this once. Think of it as a qualification procedure. This strategy helps the game move faster as you can get more points each turn. In the following example, there will be 2 players: player 1 (blue), and the player 2 (green). In this example, both players have already gotten their 500 points to qualify for point sharing. This is what the point sharing variation looks like:

Player 1 has rolled two 1s and a 5. They are going to select all three dice.

Since the player only has 3 dice left. They are going to end their turn with 250 points.

Now it is player 2's turn. They have two options. Start from scratch and roll with 6 dice, or start off the previous players turn. This means that player 2 will start their turn by rolling only 3 dice. They will also start their turn with 250 points, if they don't Farkle.

Three Ones

This variation is a very simple one. When farkle was made, rolling three 1's scores you 1000 points in farkle. However, rolling 4 of a kind also scores 1000 points. This means that if you roll three 1's, or four 1s, the points are the same. This is why it makes more sense for three 1s to equal a different value between 600 and 1000. We chose 700 because it follows the pattern, but it could really be whatever you choose.

Four/Five/Six of a Kind

This variation changes the values of the four/five/six of a kind. It makes them similar to the three of a kind melds. In this variation, the value of the dice you use to get a four/five/six of a kind change. This variation slows the game down because the meld values are lowered. To calculate these values, take the three of a kind value and multiply it by: 2 (four dice), 3 (five dice), 4 (six dice).
